Interim Pastor
Rev. David Hodgson
I have spent
forty-four years of
ordained ministry
cultivating opportu-
nities for God to
get involved with
people, and oppor-
tunities for people
to come home to
God. So it seems
quite natural that God should lead me
to a congregation that has been creat-
ing similar opportunities for ninety-eight
years! Your church is appropriately
named, and I believe that our interim
season is truly a golden opportunity
that God has set before us all.
God has called me to three long pastorates of ten years or more, and has used me well in five interim tran- sitions, giving me every reason to be- lieve that we’re going to have a lot of fun together as we live into the ad- venture God has in mind for Opportu- nity Presbyterian Church. We spent a week together in October, and I won’t be back until the second week in November, but I have every confi- dence that the enthusiasm I discov- ered at OPC will continue to grow as God prepares us for the task at hand.
During my faith journey through ministry I have also served as Mayor of a New Jersey municipality, earned a pilot’s license and a realtor’s license, and earned a doctor of ministry degree with a thesis on theology and public policy at San Francisco Theological Seminary. I have enjoyed pulpit ex- changes in Scotland and Wales, and in Uganda and Ukraine where I also par- ticipated in their emerging democratic efforts.
I have three children, Deanne has two; and by them we have been gifted with five grandchildren. Deanne will be here when she can, but has professional commitments that will keep her in Arizona for ex- tended periods of time. I look forward to the challenge God has set before us, and I so very grateful for your warm welcome.
With gratitude and praise,
David Hodgson
