Opportunity Presbyterian Church

“By the power of the Holy Spirit, the mission of the Board of Deacons of Opportunity Presbyterian Church shall be to serve the congregation and community by ministering to those in need—to the sick, to the friendless and to any who may be in distress.”

The Deacons minister to the community:

The Deacons provide assistance to individuals or families who seek help from the church when they find themselves in emergency situations. This is accomplished by the purchase of bus tokens and $10 grocery vouchers, with a no-alcohol and no-tobacco restriction. An occasional meal at Denny's and overnight accommodations in a local motel may also be provided.

The Deacons minister to the congregation:

Through the Deacons' Special Friends Ministry, Deacons attempt to discern if there is any member or friend of OPC who is permanently or temporarily unable to participate fully in worship and other church activities. If the person is willing, a Deacon is assigned to make regular contact with them. Usually this involves spending time on a regular basis visiting with the shut-in, but it may also include helping them with errands, etc., depending on their circumstances. In December, the Deacons invite the congregation to join them in caroling to Special Friends.

Other responsibilities:

Current Deacons are: Dorothy Davis, Barbara Golden, Jane Hussey, Charlotte Stone (Moderator), Jim Stone, Dennis Weitman, Margot Wilson, Ritchie Whipple, Roger Anderson, Sandy Anderson, Kathy Boman, Bud Keeling, Mike Nemeth, Ronita Taylor, Jim Fletcher, Tracey Fletcher.

If you feel lead to answer God's call as a Deacon, or would like to be contacted by a Deacon, please feel free to contact any Deacon, nominating committee, or the church office.
